Here are some tire maintenance tips that we've learnt and practiced:
1. Check and adjust tire pressure the first thing in the morning.
We prefer to slightly over inflate (< 8psi) our tires in the evening just before we park our car for the night. The next morning, we can deflate the pressure to the correct level easily. It is recommended to set the tire pressure according to the vehicle manufacturer's recommendation. Note: The sun's radiant heat or even driving short distances will warm up the tires; the pressure reading will be off once the tires are warm.
2. Use a proper tire pressure guage.
Nothing beats having the right tool for the job. We invested in a good quality tire pressure gauge; it does not cost much.
3. Check for leaks or puncture.
For safety reasons, we always check our tires for leaks or puncture every time before we drive the car. It is also a good practise to check for leaks at the valve stem and for any debris that may get trapped in the threads of the tires. Replace the valve stem if it is found to be leaking and remove any debris from the tire threads.
4. Rotate the tires regularly.
We usually rotate our tires every 10,000km. This is to even out the wear and prolong the life of the tires.
