Revisiting Jerusalem
Jerusalem is indeed a very interesting city, especially the old city of Jerusalem with its beauty and history. Here are some images captured while Fred did his pilgrimage to the Holy City. He also took the opportunity to have himself captured in some of the photographs as he did not have the chance to do it the last time round.

The last few months had been rather hectic and an opportunity for some rest and relax came when Mich had to travel to Hong Kong for work. Fred promptly volunteered to track along, although the timing was rather off and his schedule was tight. Nevertheless, the trip was more gastronomic then travel and here are some images to share.

R&R @ Genting
Genting Highlands is a mountain peak within the Titiwangsa Mountains between the states of Pahang and Selangor of Malaysia and is home to a number of mountain resorts by the same name. It is also accessible by the world's fastest and SEA's longest cable car called Genting Skyway. People come here to visit its highly touted casinos and themeparks.

Revisiting My Roots (2)
On our day off, our uncles kindly organized a tour around some of the more famous HaiNan landmarks for us, first-timers to HaiNan island. It was a real eye-opener, considering the amount of history that goes behind these places. And also, how many times you are asked for money either when merely pointing your camera at a certain object or just by walking into a tourist spot.
Revisiting My Roots (1)
Hainan (with a literal meaning of South of the Sea) is the smallest province of China. It also known as the Hawaii of Asia because of its pristine beaches and clear waters. Mich had a chance to visit her paternal ancestral roots when the whole family went back recently to participate in a ceremony which resulted in the placement of her grandparents' tablet in the ancestral hall. An event, usually reserved for a selected few in a whole generation.

Roaming around Tachileik
My road trip to Thailand in 2005 included a short but interesting visit to the border town of Tachileik in Myanmar. This gallery contains a small fraction of what I saw. Another minor incident during this visit was that we were held up at the custom for some silly reason. By the time we were allowed to pass, the gate on Thai side was already closed. Luckily for us, the officers were kind enough to let us climb over the fence and return to the Thai side safely. :-)

Trip to Pulau Langkawi
Langkawi is also known as the Jewel of Kedah and is an archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea, some 30km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia. "Lang" comes from the Malay word helang which means eagle. In the past, the land was a home to innumerable eagles and "Kawi" is Sanskrit for marble, which is found in excess in this part of Malaysia.

After months and months of deliberation, we decided to take the plunge! Literally, of course! And signed up for the NAUI Scuba Diver's certification. Harajuku is an area between Shinjuku and Shibuya. Local landmarks include the headquarters of NHK, Meiji Shrine, and Yoyogi Park. It is also known internationally for its youth style and fashion. Harajuku street style is promoted internationally, most famously in the Harajuku Girls in Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B.

Odaiba is a large artificial island in Tokyo Bay, Japan, across the Rainbow Bridge from central Tokyo. It was initially built for defensive purposes in the 1800s, dramatically expanded during the late 20th century as a seaport district, and has developed since the 1990s as a major commercial, residential and leisure area.

We made it a point to visit the Super Autobacs while we were in Tokyo. The nearest branch was in Odaiba, a huge amusement zone where one can enjoy shopping, delicious food, entertainment and a beautiful view of the Tokyo Bay all at the same time. :-)

Exploring Tokyo 2008 - Ginza
Nissan Motor Company Limited shortened to Nissan is a multinational automaker headquartered in Japan. It formerly marketed vehicles under the "Datsun" brand name and is one of the largest car manufacturers. The company's main offices are located in the Ginza area of Chuo, Tokyo. We heard that they were going to move to Yokohama in a couple of years and felt lucky to be able to visit their showrooms before they started moving.

Tsukiji fish market is the biggest wholesale fish and seafood market in the world and also one of the largest wholesale food markets of any kind. The market is located in Tsukiji in central Tokyo, and is a major attraction for foreign visitors.

Mount Fuji 2008
Mount Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan at 3,776m and straddles the boundary of Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures just west of Tokyo. It's symmetrical cone is a well-known symbol of Japan and is frequently depicted in art and photographs, as well as visited by sightseers and climbers.

Old Faithful Geyser
There is a regularly-erupting geyser named Old Faithful near Calistoga, California in addition to the one at Yellowstone National Park. There are numerous wineries within a short drive but it is however noted for its hot springs spas, a local specialty being immersion in hot volcanic ash known as a mud bath.

Mae Salong - Hill Tribes

Trip to Krabi (2)
Ao Nang is the busiest beach destination in Thailand's Krabi Province. There is little to do immediately around Ao Nang, but Railey and Ko Phi Phi are just around the corner and there are many tour operators offering activities such as sea kayaking, scuba diving and elephant treks.

Trip to Krabi (1)
We decided to embark on a family-themed trip and our destination was Krabi. It is one of the southern provinces of Thailand, at the shore of the Andaman Sea. We chose to stay at Ao Phra Nang (Princess Bay), although everybody uses the short form Ao Nang these days. It is a great town to visit for tourists as it is dominated by tour agencies, a good range of accommodations and restaurants and transport can be easily found. The town's name should bring back memories as it was struck by the Indian Ocean earthquake in 2004.

My first US trip (1)
At the end of October, my colleagues and I made a trip to Washington to visit our parent company. Ah, the land of the White House. It was exciting as it was my first time to the US. A little apprehensive at first, especially after those horror stories at the strict US customs. But, it all turned out well with terrific hosts, food and cool weather. :)

Hong Kong 2005 - An Eye-opener

Caving - Gua Musang
Last weekend, we made a trip up north towards Gua Musang, a small town situated along the border of Kelantan. In the name of preservation, the Malaysia Karst Society organised a trip to a particular limestone cave, also named after the town. Journey to Perlis
It was a long weekend, and Eric suggested that we go on a caving trip! We were delighted and excited! Being rookies, we were naturally blur about type of gear or equipment we needed.
Luckily for us, we've experience friends to guide us along. After a couple hours of packing and making sure everything we need is on board Eric's AO, we set off and head towards Perlis.

Trekking up Gunung Ulu Semangkok

Outing to Sungei Balang
We went on a road trip/outing to Sungei Balang (West Malaysia) with a group of friends during the weekend. The trip began in the wee hour in the morning, Mich drove and Fred navigated. Excitement filled the air as this was the first time we drove into Malaysia; we believe that many lessons will be learnt before we finally reached our destination.
Everyone other than Chua (who was there earlier) arrived at the designated meeting point and we're on our way...... Both Fred and I had taken a wrong turn earlier and finally managed to meet up with the convoy at a rest stop along the N-S highway.
