Our Hope!

We've always been interested in the Nikon AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 200-400mm 1:4 IF-ED G lens, but did not have the chance to test it. Fred having only briefly handled it once loves the handling but was not sure of the optical quality. After reading this review, we are even more convinced to take a closer look at it. We hope Nikon Singapore will release the lens to the local market so that we can get of hands on it soon.

A Good Deed on Vesak

On Vesak Day yesterday, the group of 3 i.e. Peng Eik, Fred and myself went on a mission. The mission was to prevent people from releasing animals in public areas like reservoirs and canals. We were recruited by NParks as volunteers for this nationwide "exercise".

Celebrating Vesak day has its long-standing tradition, that is to release animals. Most people believed that releasing captive animals would bring good luck or to gain good karma. This is because they feel compassion for living things and want to do their best for animals in dire need of help.

However, they do not realise that the act of releasing those animals would be a cruel one. Commonly released animals such as, Red-eared Sliders (also known as the simplistic terrapin) and American Bull-frogs are not native to Singapore and thus would not be able to survive in the wild. They would also serve as competitors for living space and food against Singapore's own native wildlife.

Animal release especially during Vesak Day has become a commercialised affair. Wild animals are caught and sold at a fee to supplement the demand for this act. We should not encourage the capture of wild animals to contine.

Sadly in SIngapore, many people do not realise that it is a offence to release any animals into the public parks.
