Shu Uemera Makeover Portraiture Photography
Today was an interesting day, we had helped out in Chua and Peng Eik's Shu Uemera on scene portraiture photography shoot in one of the large departmental store. The ladies looks really stunning and happy after the makeover and photography session! It really makes us feel good to be able to make others happy with our little efforts! ;-)

TinkerTool 3.3
TinkerTool 3.3 allows you to access user settings built into Mac OS X that cannot be controlled by the standard "System Preferences" application. The latest version has been completely rewritten and uses a new technology that allows the tool to automatically adapt to different operating system versions. This way it is backward-compatible down to OS version 10.0 and will also guarantee support for future versions of Mac OS X.

Trying is believing!
You've got to try it to believe it! The 2 GHz dual processor PowerMac G5 was ... for the lack of a better word... fast! Opening RAW images in Photoshop CS was so much quicker, applying custom filters to the images was also speedy. It's great working on the PowerMac G5! Everything from hardware to software just seems so cooperative, no more unnecessary nags and delays. Yeah! ;-0

Caring for the ARCA-SWISS Monoball Head
The ARCA-SWISS Monoball Head is the Rolls Royce of tripod ballheads... period. It's such a precision piece of equipment that special care must be taken while using it in the field. However, many photographers do not know how to care for the ballhead, hence, the problems of operating it. We've found a very good article that provides all the necessary information on the ballhead, this is a MUST READ article for all owners of the ARCA-SWISS Monoball head.

Bigger IS better!
We saw the new 30" Apple Cinema Display @ one of the AppleCentres today and it was HUGE! With such a screen, editing digital images would be a very pleasant experience indeed. The 23" looks dimunitive when seated beside the 30", it's like the world has just grown smaller on the 23"...... sigh..... We humans are greedy don't you think? :-P

Green Eyed Soul - The CD
I've never realized that music in the Green Eyed Soul CD by Sarah Connor was pretty good until today. I've only just started listening to it seriously on my iPod and boy, was I surprised! Mich always has the knack about getting CDs that are well... "difficult"! I've only managed to get the CD for Mich after searching through music stores in Newport, Cardiff and finally London; it was the second last one in Virgins by the way. I was really glad to have gotten it for Mich though, she seems to like it and that is more important isn't it?

Finally... an iPod!
Yes.. Yes.. Yes.. after holding back for a long long time, Fred finally got himself an iPod. Fred fell in love with the iPod when it was first launched a few years back, its high cost has been the reason Fred held off getting the iPod then. But, the newly launched 4th generation iPod was attractively priced (after Mich's edu discount), that made the decision simpler! LETS GET IT says Fred. :-P

Temptation?
Most Digital photographers would have heard of 1D mark II, 8 mega-pixels, 8 frames per second and yada yada yada..... Some may be tempted to switch to this particular camera, as the specification was indeed very impressive! Unfortunately, Nikon (the brand we use) did not have any camera that can rival the specs of the mark II......... YET! The closest camera was the 4-mega pixels D2H. Some grumbled that it don't even come close to the mark II.
Fred would have confessed that he faced such a temptation before, but fortunately for him, wisdom sort of prevailed and he remains loyal and faithful to his trusty Nikon cameras. We've also come across an interesting review that portrays the above scenario to the tee..... Have a good read here!

What's Up?
The past 2 weeks have been pretty ..... mad! :-P We've been really REALLY busy .... Mich has to study and Fred's working on MUGS-related stuff. We missed taking pictures, and taking about that, we've got to go shoot some pictures soon ... Fred was reminded of the state of the old National Library (located at Stamford Road by a posting on MUGS. The building was in a very sad state ... Fred used to visit the library during his teenage years! We'll have to make it a point to record the other remaining historical buildings or places around Singapore!

A dream come true!
Not long ago, we mentioned here that we would love to get our hands on the new Nikon AFS 200-400 F4 lens. Guess what, we finally had the chance during the Embrace Nature photo-outing organised by our friend Chua and Peng Eik for Clubsnap. During the outing, Fred and Mich had the honour of "taking charge" of this new baby (the lens) and also to provide assistance to any participants who were interested in trying out the lens.
Well, we must say that the lens was very well built. It is not too heavy, which is good news to nature photographers as it allows hand-holding for shooting birds in flight. The zoom range offers great flexibility, however the VR functions take some getting use to. The most important selling point for this lens is in its image quality. Fred took some test shots with this lens and the quality of images produced by this lens was awesome! We certainly hope we could afford this lens in the future! :-P

MUGS & Us
The year had passed with a blink of an eye without even us noticing. During this year, the Mac User Group Singapore held its AGM, we (Mich & Fred) were both re-elected as part of the Exco for MUGS. One thing that really delighted us was that our friends, Peng Eik and Michael were also re-elected as part of the Exco, Michael as Treasurer and Peng Eik as President. We look forward to the new challenges ahead and will do our best for the community.
