Animal Cruelty

I am upset. I received a link to a picture of the dismembered kitten at Sims Ave. Upon seeing it, my heart sank. :-( Yes, I was in a very foul mood. I don't understand what had gotten into the person's mind when he/she decided to do something like that. Just because you're a human being, it does NOT give you the right to treat animals this way. Who do you think you are? Higher than God Himself? Geez. It's very cruel and simply goes to show that your parents didn't bring you up the right way and that you are no better than the US soldiers from Abu Ghraib prison.

Retribution goes a complete circle. What you do will be done unto you in return.

For the picture, click here. Level of gore: 2/5, you've been warned.

"Animals of the world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans any more than black people were made for whites or women for men."

Prosperity And Adversity

ODB_2006_08_small.jpg

"Prosperity and adversity are equal-opportunity destroyers. The extremes of life can be hazardous because a person with too much may encounter as much difficulty as one with too little.

Agur, the writer of Proverbs 30, must have sensed this danger when he prayed: “Remove falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches—feed me with the food allotted to me; lest I be full and deny You, and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ or lest I be poor and steal, and profane the name of my God” (Proverbs 30:8-9).

When we invite the Lord to place His mark of ownership on our lives, we acknowledge His wise and loving provision for all our needs."

Being humans where temptations are rife in our lives, it is hard to be content with all that you have. You're always craving for that something extra. I know. Because I'm guilty of that too. :-(

But let us strive towards realizing that God has already given us all that we need. THAT is contentment. ;-)

Surviving Office Politics

Tip #25

Learn to shield yourself from the emotional abuse of such people by limiting interaction primarily to work. If the situation gets too hard to handle because of chaos, ask for a transfer or look for an exit door and find a new job. Do not wait until you are completely broken down. Know the danger signs (your body will tell you) and when to quit. Dealing with "hard nuts to crack" is not easy. Such workers have compulsive obsessive behavior leading sometimes to exaggerated responses to trivial issues. These types of people either have emotional problems or are still emotionally immature. The problem in such people have been tolerated for so long that it is hard for them to change.

Honest mistake

A funny moment captured on CNA. :-D

Somebody made a boo-boo and let the camera run LIVE for all to see. A refreshing insight into how reporters spend their time during those breaks inbetween news segments.

Update: Apparently someone found another blooper on TCS 8. Check it out here. ;-)

YouTube

Before we start flooding our webby with YouTube vids, let us explain to our fellow readers what IS YouTube.

YouTube is a free online video streaming service that allows users to view and share videos that have been uploaded by members. Anyone can view and share videos, and members can upload videos and use other features, FOC. Do take note however, like all video streaming services, there ARE inappropriate content floating around. Parents, be careful! :-)

YouTube has a huge collection of videos. From latest MTVs, to spoofs, to anime, to anything. If you can record it, YouTube plays it.

Diesel discount

Over the weekend, petrol stations all over the island implemented a discount on diesel prices. We could hardly believe our eyes when we passed the first station, displaying a discount of 16% (up from the usual 10%). Maybe it was to offset the slight decrease in oil prices? We weren't sure. Then we passed another with 19%. Maybe another price war? Nah. Because petrol prices ain't moving. Then we chanced upon a couple with 22%. Ah well. :-)

The most common discount is the 16%. So fellow truckers, we're in luck. For the time being. Living in Singapore, we have gotten used to the "tsunami" trend, i.e. a sudden drop then bam! A huge wave hits us all. Enjoy the discounts while we can! Yeah!

Update on 26 Jul: Discounts are at 25% islandwide!

Reflection

ODB_2006_08_small.jpg

"So much of our time and attention are devoted to physical appearance that it’s easy to consider it the most important aspect of our lives. But the Bible reminds us that God wants us to see ourselves and others differently.

When the Lord sent Samuel to anoint a new king over Israel (1 Samuel 16:1), God reminded him to look deeper than physical characteristics: “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature . . . . For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart”.

God’s Word has some harsh condemnation for those who show favoritism based on appearances (James 2:1-2). When we begin to see people through God’s eyes, our focus will change from looks to life."

Our mirrors reflect the outward appearance; God’s mirror reveals the inward condition.

Pixel Advertising

This new form of advertising might just be taking over a website near you! The unique idea is the brainchild of Alex, a 21 year old who was lying in bed one night thinking about how to make money for his university education. It is a simple concept: 1 pixel for 1 US dollar. His page is divided into 1 million pixels and every pixel is sold, thus making him a millionaire! Do check out his webby for more details! Perhaps you can be a millionaire too! :-)

Cameron Highlands

cameron_2006.jpgWe just came back from a fun-filled weekend trip to Cameron Highlands! :-)

Just a bit of information about Cameron Highlands for our foreign friends:

This place is at 1500 metres above sea-level among the peaks of the main range of Peninsular Malaysia. Temperatures hover between 16 to 28degC. Strawberry farms and tea plantations are aplenty here. It is a nice spot to hide away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Along with the fantastic company, the road-trip was great! We did your typical touristy stuff and even had charcoal steam boat in the evening, when temperatures are cool, wearing only tees and shorts! Brr... We even dropped by Ipoh and Malacca along the way. Ok ok, we'll get the trip gallery up and running the soonest we can!
