Synergy

Synergy - A word that is constantly used by many people we know, be it in meetings, conferences, chit-chats and so on. We felt that these people do not fully comprehend the true meaning of the word and merely use it because it sounds like the "IN" word to use. What does the word really mean? The dictionary states:

Synergy : The interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects.

So, the next time you hear someone using the word "Synergy", think about what they really mean. ;-P

File system journaling

Journaling in Mac OS Extended (HFS Plus) file system improves the integrity of the file system, it is especially useful for file servers where data integrity is of high priority. By default, Mac OS X will automatically select journaled file system during the formating of a hard drive. The minus point of journaling is the possibility of reduced disk performance.

I usually disable the journaling option when I'm formating a drive. However, if a drive were already journaled, we can disable it (in Mac OS X 10.4) by holding down the Option key while selecting the File menu in the Disk Utility application. This will make the "Disable Journaling" option visible under the File menu. For a more in depth information on file system journaling, you can take a look at this page.

WWII remembered

On this day in 1942, Singapore fell to the Japanese during World War II. Older generation would surely remember the suffering they've been through, whereas younger generation like ourselves would not be able to fathom their suffering during those three years and eight months. There are a couple of trails around Singapore that will help us understand a little more of our nations history. Look out for the upcoming show "Letters from Iwo Jima" too.

Valentine's day

On 14th February every year, couples in love will most likely be celebrating Valentine's day. Over the years, this day has become an opportunity for the enterprising few to make some money out of these couples. Look around and we're sure you can spot some of these activities. :-) FrednMich usually defy convention and do not head all out to celebrate Valentine's. Instead, we have a simple pre- or post-V day dinner. For us and as cliche as it sounds, Valentine's Day IS everyday. Spread the love, everyone!

Weather getting warmer now

After a series of rainy days which caused several locations in Singapore to be flooded, the experts declared that it was the wettest we have experience in many years. Now, it seems that we are returning to the warm and sunny weather. Too warm for us; in fact! The last few days had been terribly warm, with sun ray that seems to be burning levels of skin off ones body. I think it is time to buy more sunblock and use it, for protection. :-P
