Elgato Turbo.264 - 1.2
The 1.2 version update (Leopard compatibility) for Elgato Turbo.264 apparently slipped under my radar recently. Luckily, I found it in time to enable me to do some video conversion for Mich. :-P

MUGS gathering
Last night's MUGS gathering was really fun! We met new and old friends, exchanged views, shared experiences and played with toys. It has been about 3 years or so since we last met Terence and it was great to catch up.

While Mich was catching up, I was busy fiddling with Aik Yong's Nikon D3. The feeling while holding it is similar to the D2H that I'm using, but the control and curves of the body seem more ergonomically placed. It was also eye-opening to be able to see the difference between a standard lens and a DX lens on the D3. I was told that the noise control on this camera is amazing, too bad I did not have a CF card with me or else I can shoot a few pics and make comparisons with the D300.

Last but not least, I felt heartened to see old friends being able to meet up during the gathering. Happy New Year to All!

A gathering & gadget galore
It has been quite a while since the few of us last met in a group, and with the return of Cathelin, the time couldn't be more perfect. We met up at our regular meeting point and proceeded to "Blu Jazz" for dinner. Once there, the guys began chatting about their "toys", Jeff brought along his newly acquired D300 for us to test drive.
This camera is very well-balanced even with a 17-55mm F2.8 Nikkor lens mounted. I can go on about the nice features that this camera has, but that will probably be boring. It would be betther to check out some of the shots here to get a feel. I just want to highlight that these shots were taken using aperture priority without any user intervention. The point was to see how well the camera performed under tricky light conditions, and the high ISO noise control. BTW, the Sinn U1 that you see here is one of Jeff's collections... yum yum!
While the guys were busy fiddling with gadgets, the gals were busy catching up on everything under the sky! Talk about multi-tasking... We ended the night with a spin on Adrian's S-GT. I wonder what will the next gathering be like???

Confused by technology?
While shopping for music CDs recently, I came across a couple of interesting acronyms. A search on the Web & Wiki came up with some very interesting answers:
DSD - Direct-Stream Digital
HDCD - High Definition Compatible Digital
XRCD - Extended Resolution Compact Disc
SACD - Super Audio CD
LPCD - Analogue sound of the vinyl LP record on ordinary CD
Be careful when selecting your next audio CD, most SACD requires a SACD player and will not play on normal CD player. Do check with the staff of the store before purchasing. :-)

S-GT and a set of wheels
The design of the wheels on a vehicle can really affect the whole look of the car that uses them. That was what we witnessed this weekend. Our friend, Adrian offered to give us a ride in his brand-new Subaru S-GT, and off we went to the tyre shop.
During our visit to the showroom last week, we did agree that the look of the S-GT can be further enhanced with a change of rims. In our opinion (Adrian, Fred and Michelle), the stock ones just did not do justice to the look of the car. Adrian has already chosen the six-spoke rims from ProDrive and all that was left was to decide on the colour.
He selected gold, and we couldn't agree with him more. Awhile later, the installation was done and Adrian's S-GT was wearing a set of nice looking rims and rubber to boot.
Just take a look at the images and you can surely appreciate the transformation. Enjoy your new ride Adrian. :-)

A spin on the new REX
We visited MI with our friend Adrian last weekend. The intention was to check out the accessories/options that are available for his spanking new Subaru Impreza S-GT. The look of the new Impreza range will surely benefit with an additional lower lip to the front bumper and a change to the mesh front grill. While there, the temptation to upgrade to a high performance car was strong.
Fred decided to request for a test drive, and off we went in a REX. The ride was more comfortable than I've expected from a REX; the legroom and seating comfort for the rear occupants are also very good. The power from the boxer engine can be readily felt, and the delivery was smooth too. The new REX could be the ideal family-cum-fun car to own. Now, does anyone want to contribute to Fred's REX upgrade fund? :-P

Meridian F80 - Awesome!
We attended a Hifi show held at a hotel here recently, and that was where we came across the Meridian F80.
Don't let the size of this little fella fool you. The sound is simply awesome, even in a big room with a high ceiling! I'm amazed. Look-wise, you will either love it or hate it. Take a look at the image and you'll know what I mean. The F80 has a built-in CD player, radio and Aux input for other audio sources. It is also designed to work with the iPod. Tempted? You'll need a really deep pocket to own one. :-P
